Tesla Vehicles to Get Wake Word for Grok AI, Confirms Musk

Elon Musk on Wednesday confirmed that Tesla vehicles will soon support a dedicated wake word for the in-car Grok AI assistant. In response to a post on X suggesting an optional “Hey Grok” wake word for Teslas, Musk simply replied: “Coming.”
The news comes just days after Tesla began rolling out Grok 4 to its vehicles as part of the 2025.26 software update, which also included several other enhancements. Grok 4, the latest version of xAI’s conversational AI, now powers voice interactions inside Tesla vehicles and is expected to become a central part of the in-car user experience.
Beyond the eventual addition of a wake word, Grok inside Teslas currently supports multiple voice options and personalities, as spotted in previous software leaks. This makes interactions more personalized, whether you want a serious co-pilot or a more playful AI companion behind the wheel.
“You can now talk to Grok, your AI companion built by xAI, hands-free in your Tesla vehicle,” reads Tesla’s official support page for Grok. “You can choose Grok’s voice and personality, ranging from Storyteller to Unhinged, to enhance convenience while you’re on the go.”
Musk didn’t say when the wake word feature would go live, but given that Grok is already rolling out with software version 2025.26, it may not be far off.
In the meantime, we want to hear your best ideas: what should Tesla’s AI respond to besides “Hey Grok”? There’s the obvious — “OK Grok.” Then there’s the quirky — “Engage Warp Drive” or “Ready to Grok.” Or maybe you’ve got something completely different in mind? Let us know in the comments below.
