SpaceX Starlink Offering Rare Discount to Select Subscribers

SpaceX has quietly rolled out a rare discount on Starlink service for select customers, offering 20% off monthly bills for the next six billing cycles. The surprise promotion appears to be targeted, with no sign-up or action required from users.

The offer began popping up in customers’ inboxes this week, with at least four Starlink users in the U.S., Australia, and Indonesia confirming receipt of the email. “As a valued Starlink customer, you’re getting 20% off your monthly plan for the next six billing cycles,” reads the message from the Starlink team. “No action needed. Just keep enjoying your service and the discount will apply automatically.”

One Reddit user based in Utah shared that the discount brought their Residential Lite plan down from $80 to just $64 per month, a savings of roughly $96 over six months. Others speculated the discount may be an incentive to prevent churn, especially for users who haven’t used their service in a while.

Starlink pricing has gradually increased over the past few years, with U.S. customers now paying up to $120/month for the standard Residential plan. Meanwhile, SpaceX has rolled out a more affordable $80/month Residential Lite plan in areas with excess capacity. To sweeten the deal, new subscribers have even been offered free standard Starlink hardware with a 12-month commitment.

However, not all regions are benefiting. Free hardware is only being offered in some areas with excess capacity, while regions with limited bandwidth, like the Pacific Northwest, are now subject to a steep $1,000 “demand surcharge” on top of regular hardware pricing — pushing upfront costs above $1,300.

Starlink recently surpassed 2 million active subscribers in the U.S., with SpaceX revealing plans to begin deploying third-generation Starlink satellites in the first half of 2026 — promising significant improvements to the network.

At this point, it’s still unclear how Starlink is determining eligibility for the 20% monthly discount. While some users have speculated it may be based on usage, tenure, or local network demand, there’s no official word from SpaceX. Notably, the discount isn’t limited to North America — users in Australia and Indonesia have also reported receiving it.
