Tesla Expands Robotaxi Access to Registered Testers in Austin

Tesla appears to be expanding its highly anticipated Robotaxi pilot program in Austin, Texas, this time inviting everyday drivers who registered their interest via the company’s official Robotaxi sign-up page.
One of the latest invitees is Austin-based Tesla fan Ethan — notably not a social media influencer or high-profile voice within the Tesla community. According to Ethan, he was invited after simply signing up on Tesla.com/robotaxi, indicating that Tesla is broadening access to public testers beyond the influencer crowd.
Tesla first began seeding Robotaxi invites in mid-June, offering Early Access exclusively to prominent Tesla advocates, YouTubers, and influencers. Those initial testers were given access to the new fully autonomous ride-hailing service, powered by Tesla’s latest Full Self-Driving (FSD) software stack and operating with no one in the driver’s seat, when it launched on June 22. A second wave of Early Access invites was sent out last week.
Now, this new wave of invites signals a shift toward real-world user feedback from average consumers — a key step as Tesla looks to validate and scale the service before its broader rollout.
The Robotaxi program is currently only running in Austin, Tesla’s de facto headquarters. It has also been operating under tightly controlled conditions, including geo-fencing and the presence of a Tesla Safety Monitor in the passenger seat for every ride.
Shortly after debuting the Robotaxi pilot, Tesla launched a new website for users across the U.S. to register their interest in trying out the service. Those interested can still register for early access at Tesla’s official Robotaxi page — and, based on these latest invites, you might just get picked pretty soon.
