Tesla Sends Out Second Round of Robotaxi Invites

Tesla has started sending out a second round of early access invites for its new Robotaxi service in the U.S., just days after the official pilot launched in Austin, Texas, on June 22.
The first wave of invites went out on June 20, targeting high-profile Tesla owners, tech influencers, and prominent figures within the Tesla community. Now, more invitations are rolling out as the company ramps up the program and gradually expands its pool of early testers.
Tesla’s Robotaxi service, which kicked off in Austin last weekend, is powered by the company’s latest Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. It offers fully autonomous rides, albeit with the caveat of each ride having a Tesla Safety Monitor in the passenger seat and teleoperators on speed dial for now. The service currently operates within a geo-fenced area and charges riders a flat fee of $4.20 per trip — a playful nod from Elon Musk that has become a recurring theme with Tesla launches.
Only those invited can currently download the Robotaxi app. This second batch of invites appears to continue the company’s strategy of seeding access to trusted supporters and voices in the Tesla ecosystem. Early users are being encouraged to share their feedback and experiences, which could help shape the service before a wider rollout.
For those who haven’t received an invite yet but are interested in trying out Tesla’s Robotaxi service when it becomes available in their city, the company has also launched an official sign-up page. You can register for early access directly on Tesla’s website here.
While feedback from early testers has been largely positive, much of the mainstream media has made a point of highlighting every kink or hiccup with Tesla’s fledgling Robotaxi service. With more invites going out, a larger pool of testers will give onlookers more data to evaluate the service as it develops.
