Tesla Software Hints at 6-Seat Model Y, Grok Personalities

A recent firmware teardown has revealed references to a six-seater configuration of Tesla’s Model Y, alongside indications of enhanced in-car AI features, according to data miner @greentheonly. This backs up previous rumours of a six-seat Model Y Refresh but challenges earlier speculation of a China-only release.
The firmware leak points to a possible global rollout of the six-seater Model Y as early as 2025. However, a report from last year claimed Tesla was working on a 7-seat variant for the 2025 Model Y Refresh. Which is it, Elon?
Tesla currently offers a 7-seat Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration in several markets, but it has been criticized for being cramped inside. A six-seat layout could strike a better balance between comfort and passenger space. Tesla has not officially confirmed the six-seater, but firmware evidence adds credibility to the rumor and hints at a global release.
Additionally, Tesla’s 2025.20.3 software update introduces a navigation feature advising drivers to “slow down to save energy,” leveraging fleet data to optimize range. The pop-up informs drivers how much slower others drive at certain locations to save X% of battery.

The update also enhances Tesla’s in-car AI, Grok, with a new language tutor personality, alongside others like “argumentative,” “therapist,” and “unhinged.” There’s even a “romantic” personality and a “sexy” one — go figure. Accompanying icons suggest an imminent release, further expanding the vehicle’s interactive capabilities.
