Tesla Robotaxi Service Spotted on Texas DOT Website Ahead of Launch

Tesla’s Robotaxi service has officially been listed on the Texas Department of Transportation’s Automated Vehicle Deployment website ahead of its much-anticipated launch in Austin later this month.
According to a post by X user @teslayoda, the Texas DOT’s AV Deployment website now lists an “active” ride-share operation from Tesla that’s testing in the Austin Metro area without a safety driver. The included tracking map features one Robotaxi that’s already in operation. Could this be the same Model Y with “Robotaxi” graffiti that was seen driving through the streets of Austin earlier this week with no one behind the wheel?
Tesla’s Robotaxi platform is an autonomous ride-sharing service for low-cost, safe urban transportation. It is powered by Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology and does not require a human operator.
This comes just days after Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared a “tentative” June 22 launch date for the Robotaxi service’s commercial launch in Austin, Texas. The Robotaxi fleet will initially consist of driverless Model Ys, but Tesla plans to eventually add two-seater Cybercabs and larger Robovans as adoption spreads to other states.
Tesla’s Robotaxi rollout won’t be without hurdles, however. Last month, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requested additional data from Tesla on its driverless vehicles’ performance in adverse weather conditions due to safety concerns. The Austin Robotaxi pilot appears on track for an imminent launch, but regulatory hurdles and infrastructure limitations could delay broader implementation.
You can track the rollout of Tesla’s Robotaxi pilot project in Austin live by filtering under “Tesla” on the Texas DOT’s AV Deployment website.
