Drone pilot and Tesla observer Joe Tegtmeyer released new footage on April 7 showcasing two major developments at Tesla’s Giga Texas site: the start of driverless vehicle transfers on factory grounds, and the release of detailed plans for a massive ecological riverfront project.

Self-Driving Transfers Begin at Giga Texas

In a first for the company, Tesla has started moving new Model Y and Cybertruck vehicles across the Giga Texas factory campus with no one behind the wheel.

According to Tegtmeyer’s drone footage, cars now autonomously travel from the factory’s end-of-line area to an outbound lot nearly two miles away, navigating roads and intersections without human input. Once they arrive, a human operator takes over for final positioning.

Tesla is likely using its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology for the transfers. Tegtmeyer noted that the system is designed to reduce time and labour, cutting the need for shuttle trips and saving several minutes per vehicle—potentially improving overall production efficiency.

Tesla Reveals Giga Texas Riverfront Park Vision

Tegtmeyer’s video also highlighted a newly released master plan for the Giga Texas Riverfront Echo Park, a public green space Tesla is developing along the Colorado River. The sprawling vision includes:

  • An ecological preserve with walking and biking trails
  • A Tesla Expo space near the factory’s southern edge
  • A sports complex near the southeast horse ranch area
  • Outdoor workspaces, a community circle, and open-air gathering areas
  • Access points for kayaking or river use

While construction on the park is expected to continue for several years, some ecological restoration efforts along the river have already been completed.

The full update—including video footage of the self-driving vehicles in action and views of the planned park area—is available on Joe Tegtmeyer’s YouTube channel.
