Tesla Cybertruck Wins MotorTrend’s ‘Best Tech’ Award for 2025
MotorTrend has named Tesla’s Cybertruck as the winner of its “Best Tech” award for 2025, recognizing its steer-by-wire system as a groundbreaking innovation in the auto industry.
Unlike traditional steering systems that rely on a physical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels, steer-by-wire is fully electronic.
MotorTrend praised the system for delivering ultra-precise steering, making the Cybertruck more maneuverable than any other full-size pickup. The yoke-style steering wheel requires just 340 degrees of movement to go from lock to lock, compared to multiple turns in conventional trucks. This allows for quick, effortless turns at low speeds and stable handling at high speeds.
The Cybertruck also features four-wheel steering, with the rear wheels turning up to 10 degrees to help tighten turning radius at low speeds and improve stability at higher speeds. MotorTrend described the truck’s handling as “crisp and quick”, contrasting it with the slower, bulkier steering of traditional pickups. They noted that the biggest impact is felt when performing tight maneuvers, such as parallel parking, reversing with a trailer, or navigating a crowded parking lot.
Tesla also released a new video on YouTube, showcasing steer-by-wire in action. The company highlighted how this system reduces driver effort and improves responsiveness, making the Cybertruck feel more agile—almost like a sedan in tight spaces.
With this award, Tesla’s futuristic steering system is setting a new standard for how large vehicles handle on the road. Check out the video below from Tesla:
