Polestar 3 Gets iOS and Android Digital Key, Free Hardware Upgrade
Polestar is rolling out new software updates for the Polestar 3, adding features like walk-away locking and digital key functionality. The digital key allows select smartphones and smartwatches to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle without needing a physical key.
Compatible Devices for Polestar Digital Key
The digital key feature works with:
- iPhone 11 or later (latest iOS required)
- Apple Watch Series 6 or later (latest watchOS required)
- Samsung devices (check phone manufacturer website for compatibility)
- Google devices (check phone manufacturer website for compatibility)
Polestar’s digital key can be shared between Android and iOS devices, allowing flexibility for multiple users.
“With our over-the-air updates we can continue to make our cars better over time, and with the latest updates for Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 we’ve done just that. Our customers asked for digital key functionality, and so we delivered, and we’ll continue to add value for our customers over the lifetime of their cars,” said Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, in a statement to Tesla North.
This is basically like how Tesla’s mobile phone key works with the company’s mobile app. But so far Tesla has yet to natively support Ultra wideband to integrate Apple’s native CarKey feature.
Free Hardware Upgrade for Existing Polestar 3 Owners
In 2026, the Polestar 3 will get a hardware upgrade, replacing its current NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Xavier processor with a more powerful NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin. All current Polestar 3 owners will receive this upgrade for free, with installations handled at Polestar service centers.
More Apps Coming to Polestar Vehicles
Polestar is also adding support for Google’s Car Ready Mobile Apps program, bringing apps like Farm Heroes Saga and F1 TV to the car’s infotainment system. These apps are now available on Polestar 2, with Polestar 3 and 4 to follow later this year.
