Tesla’s new Model Y has what the company calls the “first indirect reflective body-panel taillight of its kind.”

Today in a post on X, Tesla said the “Model Y had a glow up”, along with a video showing this taillight on at night.

What we didn’t know? The taillight casts a red glow on the road, which brings more prominence to the Model Y at night. This allows other drivers to see the Model Y clearly at night, plus it also brings a really cool effect.

The glow cast is wider than the Model Y and also spans what appears to be about 1 meter long. This is going to let everyone know it’s a new Tesla Model Y at night, once these vehicles ramp up deliveries.

Tesla says this “single, cross-car lamp is the first indirect reflective body panel taillight of its kind.”

Tesla said during its Q4 earnings call yesterday it expects the new Model Y to become the world’s best-selling car for the second year in a row.
