China’s Vice President Han Zheng met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk and other U.S. business leaders in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, according to China’s state-run Xinhua news agency.
During the meeting, Han encouraged Musk and other U.S. companies to explore opportunities in China, saying they could “share in the benefits of China’s development” while contributing to stronger economic ties between the two countries.
Tesla wants to launch Full Self-Driving (FSD) in China and previously said it was pegged for Q1. Any ongoing dialogue between both parties is a good thing. The company’s Gigafactory in Shanghai is already a huge presences for an American company, especially an automaker in China. Tesla recently launched the new Model Y in China first.
Han is attending the U.S. presidential inauguration on behalf of Chinese President Xi Jinping. President-elect Donald Trump invited Xi to the event, but Xi opted to send Han in his place.
Musk attended the inauguration today, and was seated with Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Google’s Sundar Pichai and other tech leaders.
