Tesla Shows Off FSD Safety in 16 Daring Test Scenarios [VIDEO]
Tesla recently unveiled a new video titled “Putting FSD Safety to the Test,” offering an inside look at how its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system handles complex driving scenarios.
The video, filmed by Tesla employees, features two Model Y vehicles navigating a series of tests on a closed course under clear California skies.
The showcased FSD version, 12.5.6.3, is an older iteration of the supervised system currently available to Tesla customers. Newer versions, such as FSD 12.6 for HW3/AI3-equipped vehicles and FSD 13.2.2 for HW4/AI4 vehicles, have since been released.
According to Tesla, all testing was conducted under controlled conditions with professional drivers to ensure safety.
“Every Full Self-Driving release is rigorously tested, including rare and adversarial scenarios on closed courses — here’s 16 examples,” Tesla stated.
The video highlights how the system responds to challenging scenarios, including unexpected cut-ins, dynamic obstacles, and simulated pedestrian crossings. Here are the scenarios featured, along with their timestamps in the video.
The U-turn cut-in was pretty impressive and freaky, but FSD did spot the other car and stopped in time. Overall, pretty impressive even for FSD 12.5.6.3:
- Reverse Cut-in (Occluded): 0:10-0:38
- Peeking (Occluded): 0:38-1:01
- Left Turn Cut-In: 1:01-1:22
- Parallel Cut-In (Occluded): 1:22-1:41
- Yield for Oncoming + Overtake: 1:41-2:10
- Right-Of-Way Violator: 2:10-2:48
- Door Opening Overtake: 2:48-3:09
- Right Turn Harsh Braking: 3:09-3:35
- Left Turn Across Path: 3:35-3:56
- Cut-Out to Static Cone: 3:56-4:18
- Dynamic Debris (Dropped Cone): 4:18-4:47
- U-Turn Cut-In (Occluded): 4:47-5:15
- High-Speed Cut-Out to Stationary Vehicle: 5:15-5:46
- High-Speed Harsh Braking: 5:46-6:18
- High-Speed Stationary Child: 6:18-6:46
- High-Speed Crossing Child: 6:46-7:16
