Tesla Takes Action on Cybertruck Power Glitch—What Owners Need to Know

Tesla has announced a recall for 2,431 of its 2024 Cybertrucks due to a potential issue with the drive inverter, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Recall Report No. 24V-832.

The recall affects Cybertrucks manufactured between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024, which were equipped with metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) within the drive inverter that could potentially malfunction.

The defect, identified in some inverters from the part number family 1802305, involves a specific MOSFET component (part number 1530063-2A-B). This fault could cause the inverter to stop producing torque, meaning drivers may lose the ability to accelerate, which increases the risk of collision. However, if this issue occurs, the driver will receive an immediate visual alert on the vehicle’s interface, instructing them to safely pull over.

Tesla began investigating this problem on August 5, 2024, following a customer report of sudden loss of propulsion. After analyzing field data and examining affected vehicles, Tesla determined on October 30, 2024, that a recall was necessary.

As of that date, Tesla identified only five warranty claims that may be related to the condition, with no reported injuries, crashes, or fatalities linked to the defect.

Starting December 9, 2024, Tesla will replace the affected drive inverters with updated components, free of charge to all affected customers, as all these vehicles remain under warranty. Tesla service centers will receive notice of this recall on November 7, 2024, and owners will be formally notified by mail beginning January 4, 2025.
