Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra EV: Fastest 4-Door Car Sets Nürburgring Record
Lei Jun, Xiaomi CEO, proudly announced that the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra EV prototype has officially secured its place in automotive history by setting a Nürburgring Nordschleife record for the fastest lap by a four-door car. This is a nice accessory to go with your Xiaomi smartphone, right?
The lap time, officially certified at 6 minutes, 46.874 seconds, demonstrates the car’s remarkable engineering and performance prowess.
The SU7 Ultra marks not only an exceptional achievement but also heralds a new chapter for China-based Xiaomi. Lei Jun shared his motivation for creating the Ultra version, stating, “I want to build a dream car — one that speaks to the hearts of those who crave the thrill of driving, who strive for the extraordinary, and who want to live every day to the fullest.”
To enhance the driving experience further, the SU7 Ultra offers track mode, providing real-time race-focused displays with data tracking. It enables drivers to challenge others on professional circuits, elevating the thrill of competitive driving.
Key performance features revealed:
- 0-100 km/h acceleration: 1.98 seconds
- Maximum horsepower: 1,548 PS through a tri-motor system
- Top speed: 350 km/h
- Braking performance: Stops from 100 km/h in just 30.8 meters
In comparison, Tesla’s Model S Plaid goes 0-100 km/h in 2.1 seconds, with a top speed of 322 km/h after purchasing the company’s $20,000 Track Package.
The vehicle features a race-tuned braking system with carbon-ceramic brake discs, offering exceptional thermal management with an operating limit beyond 1300°C. High-performance Akebono brake calipers provide six front and four rear pistons for superior stopping power.
The chassis system, developed with advanced tuning, ensures improved control and handling on the track. A self-developed torque-vectoring control system works alongside BILSTEIN EVO T1 coilovers to fine-tune the driving dynamics.
Xiaomi has also prioritized battery innovation, equipping the SU7 Ultra with a Qilin 2.0 battery. It offers:
- Max discharge power: 1,330 kW
- Enhanced charging rate: 5.2C, reducing downtime while maintaining top-tier performance
The prototype has undergone continuous refinement at the Nürburgring since June to perfect the model ahead of its official release. The production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is now available for pre-sale at RMB 814,900 (around $114,000 USD). The official launch is set for March 2025. America, don’t sleep on Chinese EVs, it seems.
