2025 Tesla Model Y Refresh to Include 7-Seater, Claims Report
Tesla is set to launch two updated versions of its popular Model Y in 2025, according to sources, reports Chinese publication Late Post (via @Tslachan).
The refreshed 5-seater Model Y, internally codenamed “Juniper,” is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2025. A new 7-seater Model Y variant is slated for delivery in Q4 of next year.
These updates aim to leverage Tesla’s existing supply chain to quickly ramp up production with minimal capital investment. Both versions will be manufactured at Tesla’s Shanghai factory, known for its cost efficiency. However, the delivery timeline for the new models is significantly delayed compared to Tesla’s original plans, which had projected deliveries this year.
The 7-seater Model Y, designed primarily for the Chinese market, is expected to differ significantly from the version currently available in North America. Specific details are not yet available, and it remains unclear if the vehicle’s wheelbase will be extended to better accommodate the third row of seats. This new variant will target China’s growing demand for multi-seat electric SUVs, aiming to revive Tesla’s market position in the region.
The Model Y is a hot seller in China and has led luxury car sales there.
Tesla is also preparing to launch a regular version of the Model Y in 2025, based on its next-generation vehicle platform. The upcoming Model Y refreshes could help boost consumer interest, similar to the impact of the Model 3 refresh delivered last September, which saw a 60% year-on-year sales increase in the first month.
Amid these developments, Tesla China continues to offer incentives like 5-year interest-free car loans to maintain sales.
