Tesla Model Y Leads as Best-Selling Luxury Car in China for 3rd Week
Tesla continues to lead the luxury car market in China, with the Tesla Model Y emerging as the best-selling luxury vehicle for the third consecutive week. According to data shared by @Tslachan, 14,200 Teslas were insured in China last week alone, underscoring the brand’s strong performance in the competitive market.
In August 2024, Tesla saw consistent weekly sales figures in China, with insured units reaching 12,500 in the first week, 15,500 in the second, 14,000 in the third, and 14,200 in the fourth week.
Year-to-date (YTD) sales from January to July show the Model Y with an impressive 246,718 units sold, far surpassing Volkswagen’s main models, such as the ID.4 Crozz and ID.4 X, which recorded 21,722 and 16,147 units sold, respectively. The Tesla Model 3 also performed well, with 81,056 units sold YTD.
Roland Pircher noted that Tesla’s performance in the third quarter of 2024 is up 29.8% quarter-over-quarter and 10.3% compared to the same period last year, making it Tesla’s best quarter after eight weeks.
However, YTD sales are slightly down by 1.8% year-over-year. We have yet to enter Q4, so Tesla has a chance to overtake last year’s sales numbers in China.
