Tesla Confirms Supercharger 300kW+ Speed Trials in California
Tesla has confirmed that its Superchargers are now capable of delivering speeds exceeding 300kW, as part of a test right now in California. This announcement follows observations made at a V4 Supercharger stall in Los Gatos, California.
Tesla owner @TesLatino shared his experience on X, stating, “Currently at a V.4 @TeslaCharging stall at Los Gatos, California and this is how it’s going! 323kW to start is not bad at all.” He noted that the speed remained above 300kW for about a minute.
Kyle Conner, another prominent figure in the Tesla community, added to the discussion, “First time we’ve seen a Tesla Supercharger outputting significantly higher than 250kW. I just FaceTimed @TesLatino to see if it was outputting high voltage, it was not. So it must have been doing >900A to get to 320+kW.” Conner also mentioned that the nameplate plaque on the charger still listed it as a 3.5 cabinet, indicating no special modifications.
Wes Morrill from Tesla clarified the situation in his reply to Conner, saying, “Running a trial on a few different V3+ stations (V3 cabinet + V4 charge post). This is not a bug, but it’s also not rolled out to all hardware-capable stations. I guess since @TesLatino has visited 97% of all North America Supercharger locations, he was bound to find one.”
This trial suggests Tesla is experimenting with lifting the amperage limitations on V4 dispenser sites, potentially paving the way for broader implementation of higher charging speeds in the future. For now, the faster charging speeds will be welcome for Cybertruck users, once fully implemented.
