Tesla Offers Fremont Factory Tour with Airfare and More to Boost China Sales
Tesla is intensifying its efforts to attract Chinese customers, announcing several new incentives aimed at boosting sales in a competitive market.
Customers in China who complete their Tesla vehicle deliveries between May 25 and June 30 will be entered into a drawing for a free tour of Tesla’s Fremont factory in the United States, the company revealed on Weibo (via CnEVPost).
The winner will receive a one-day trip to the Fremont facility, with Tesla covering airfare and transportation costs from anywhere in China. However, the announcement did not specify the number of winners, and participants must purchase a new Tesla vehicle and obtain their own visas to visit the U.S.
Additionally, Tesla is offering Chinese customers who take delivery of their vehicles by June 30 a complimentary 10,000 kilometers of Supercharging mileage.
In an effort to further entice customers, Tesla announced on May 25 that individuals visiting any Tesla store in China for a test drive before June 30 could win a two-day trip to Giga Shanghai.
On May 17, Tesla promoted its zero down payment purchase program on Weibo, offering customers who buy select versions of the Model 3 and Model Y by June 30 the choice between zero down payment and zero-interest loans.
Furthermore, Tesla announced on May 20 that customers ordering a vehicle before June 20 could receive 5,000 kilometers of free supercharging, with this offer limited to 140 customers.
These enhanced marketing initiatives come amid reports that Tesla has reportedly reduced production of its Model Y at the Shanghai factory. According to a May 24 report by Reuters, Tesla plans to cut Model Y production by at least 20 percent between March and June, citing an unnamed source.
It remains unclear whether these production cuts will extend beyond June or affect the Model 3, or if similar reductions are taking place at Tesla’s factories in the U.S. and Germany.
Tesla’s Giga Shanghai facility, the company’s largest globally, boasts an annual production capacity of over 950,000 vehicles and manufactures both the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover.
