Tesla Hikes Pay for Workers at Nevada Battery Factory
Tesla has announced a significant pay increase for hourly workers at its battery factory in Sparks, Nevada. Starting in early January, some set-rate hourly employees will see their wages rise by approximately 10%, as reported by CNBC on Monday.
According to internal materials cited in the report, Tesla will increase the hourly wage from $20 to $22 on the lower end, and from $30.65 to $34.50 on the higher end. This adjustment could result in an additional $2 to $8.30 per hour for the workers. The company is also planning to streamline some levels, meaning workers currently earning between $26.20 and $30.65 an hour will be adjusted to $34.50 an hour, reports Reuters.
This move comes amid a broader context of labor organization efforts in the U.S. auto sector. Last month, the United Auto Workers (UAW) announced a pioneering initiative to organize the entire nonunion auto sector in the U.S., following successful contract negotiations with the Detroit Three automakers.
The wage increase at Tesla’s Nevada factory also follows similar actions by Japanese automakers Honda Motor and Toyota, who have raised wages for non-union U.S. factory workers. This trend indicates a growing focus on the workforce at foreign-owned and Tesla auto plants by the UAW.
