Tesla Cybertruck is ‘Picasso’ of Cars, Says DeLorean Designer
Italian design icon Giorgetto Giugiaro has applauded Tesla’s Cybertruck, likening it to the work of Pablo Picasso in the realm of automobiles.
In an interview with the Italian daily La Repubblica, Giugiaro praised Tesla CEO Elon Musk for breaking conventional norms in pickup design, much like Picasso did in the art world, reports Automotive News Europe.
Giugiaro, renowned for his creation of the stainless steel DeLorean DMC 12, famous from the “Back to the Future” movies, sees the Cybertruck as a potential major success. He believes the vehicle’s appeal lies in its ability to stand out, stating, “It does not represent the search for harmony and perfection but for emotion and robustness.”
The design legend drew parallels between Musk’s approach to vehicle design and Picasso’s revolutionary techniques in painting. “Picasso revolutionized painting because he had courage,” Giugiaro remarked. “He was the artist of decomposition of reality.” In a similar vein, he views Musk’s Cybertruck as a bold departure from traditional automotive aesthetics.
Fabrizio Giugiaro, Giorgetto’s son and a car designer himself, also commended the Cybertruck. While he didn’t focus on its distinct styling, he acknowledged Musk’s bravery and insight into people’s desire to be distinctive. “I give Elon Musk credit for having courage and understanding people’s desire to stand out,” Fabrizio said.
The endorsement from the Giugiaros, who are influential figures in the world of automotive design, adds a significant layer of prestige to Tesla’s Cybertruck, which looks like nothing else on the roads today.
