In Vancouver’s Strathcona neighbourhood, a brownfield lot has been designated as the future site of North America’s largest Tesla service facility.

Local Vancouver, B.C., developer Beedie developer will spearhead the construction of this two-storey, 120,000-square-foot flagship Tesla Centre at 950 Raymur Ave. The facility will encompass a range of operations, including servicing, vehicle preparation, delivery, and a public showroom.

Strategically located at the fringe of a major industrial and commercial district, and in proximity to Strathcona Park and the residential community, the facility aims to integrate seamlessly into the area’s fabric.

“We have often collaborated with innovative companies on unique, built-to-suit projects and we look forward to working closely with Tesla and the local community in the coming years,” said Ryan Beedie, the president of Beedie, on Monday.

“At Beedie we are committed to building legacies for our vibrant communities, so the opportunity to support the transition to electric vehicles through this partnership with Tesla is exciting,” added Beedie.

The Tesla Centre, set to be the brand’s most extensive service center in Western Canada, will allocate approximately 63,000 square feet to service and repair, with an additional 15,400 square feet for office and staff use, as detailed by a Beedie spokesperson.

Vancouver’s status as a leader in electric vehicle adoption is a key factor in the location choice. The city boasts one of Canada’s highest EV adoption rates, with British Columbia leading as the nation’s “EV capital,” according to the companies’ joint announcement.

“We are pleased to have partnered with Beedie to build our future flagship British Columbia location in the heart of Vancouver,” said Fereshteh Zeineddin, Tesla’s director of vehicle sales and service in Canada.

“With this new facility we look to better serve our Vancouver-area customers and further support electric vehicle adoption in the province,” said Zeineddin.

The site, currently vacant, will undergo remediation by Beedie. The existing zoning facilitates the project’s swift approval process. Beedie plans to commence construction in the first quarter of 2024, targeting early 2026 for completion.

The 1.56-acre site was acquired by Beedie in August 2022 from Sherwin-Williams Canada for $19.3 million, as reported by Avison Young’s fall 2022 Vancouver industrial overview. At nearly $12.4 million per acre, this transaction ranks among the city’s most valuable per-acre industrial land deals in 2022.
