Canadian telecom Telus and FLO announced today an agreement to integrate Telus’ world-leading connectivity solutions into FLO’s charging stations.

FLO says it operates Canada’s most extensive EV network, facilitating over 1.5 million charging sessions monthly across its coast-to-coast stations. The partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“This agreement underpins Telus’ commitment to lead in sustainability, finding ways to use our world-leading connectivity and technology to drive environmental change,” said Navin Arora, Executive Vice-president, Telus and President, Telus Business Solutions and Telus Agriculture & Consumer Goods. Arora emphasized that the collaboration would enhance customer experience in the rapidly evolving EV market.

FLO will utilize Telus’ dedicated Internet of Things (IoT) network solutions and connectivity platforms in its public and commercial Level 2 and Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFC) across North America. The technology is expected to improve the reliability and operational efficiency of at least 60,000 of FLO’s chargers, including the new FLO Ultra fast charger.

“Telus will help FLO advance this mission by providing critical support to keep our chargers communicating with our network and maintaining FLO’s leading uptime of more than 98 per cent,” said Louis Tremblay, FLO President and CEO. Tremblay expressed enthusiasm for Telus’ support in FLO’s efforts to promote a zero-emissions transportation future.

The partnership aligns with both companies’ sustainability goals, supporting FLO’s initiatives to address climate change and accelerate EV adoption. It also underscores Telus’ commitment to leveraging its technology for building a more sustainable future. With Canada aiming for most light-duty vehicles to be zero-emissions by 2035, the collaboration is a timely step towards achieving this target.

Back in June, FLO agreed to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) in Canada.
