Toyota and Lexus Adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard

Toyota Motor North America announced today an agreement with Tesla to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its battery electric vehicles (BEVs) starting in 2025.

This move aligns with Toyota’s broader electrification strategy and will grant Toyota and Lexus customers access to over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America.

Starting in 2025, specific Toyota and Lexus BEVs, including a forthcoming three-row battery-electric Toyota SUV, will feature NACS ports. The SUV will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky.

Customers with vehicles equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) will also have the option to use an adapter for NACS charging beginning in 2025.

The adoption of NACS aims to enhance the charging experience for Toyota and Lexus customers, whether charging at home or in public. Through their respective apps, Toyota and Lexus already offer an extensive charging network, consisting of over 84,000 charging ports in North America.

The incorporation of NACS will expand the availability of DC fast chargers, providing customers with more charging options and greater travel flexibility.
