Tesla Launches Clear Wraps for Model 3 and Model Y
Tesla has expanded its vehicle customization options with the introduction of Clear Wraps, following the launch of color wraps earlier this week. The new offering is available exclusively for the 2023 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles and can be purchased through the Tesla app version 4.23.0 or higher.
The Clear Wraps come in two finishes: Gloss Clear, which maintains the vehicle’s existing gloss finish, and Satin Clear, which converts the gloss finish to matte. The urethane-based, self-healing film is designed to protect the vehicle’s paint against chips, scratches, and swirling.
Unlike traditional vinyl wraps, Tesla’s Clear Wraps are more environmentally friendly. The $5,000 USD purchase price includes both the cost of materials and installation. Tesla Service Centers in West Covina, CA, and Carlsbad, CA, will handle the installations.
Tesla clarified that leased vehicles are eligible for the wrap as long as they meet the requirements. However, customers may be asked to remove or replace damaged components of the wrap at the end of the lease period if they do not meet certain cosmetic standards. Installation times will vary, and customers should expect the process to take between five to seven business days. No loaner vehicles will be provided during this period.
The Clear Wraps are self-healing and can be waxed, polished, clay-barred, and ceramic coated like traditional automotive paint. If the wrap becomes damaged, customers can schedule a service appointment through the Tesla app at the same Tesla Service Center that initially installed the wrap. Tesla does not offer wrap removal services at this time.
Before installation, Tesla will perform a pre-installation inspection of the vehicle’s paint. Any irregularities, such as dents, nicks, or scratches, must be corrected before the vehicle can be accepted for wrap installation.
The price tag of $5,000 USD is about on par with what third-party shops are offering for similar wraps, but now they customers can get it done through Tesla instead.
