Tesla Milestone: 20 Millionth 4680 Cell Built at Giga Texas
Tesla announced on Wednesday it has reached a milestone at its Giga Texas factory: 20 millionth 4680 battery cells produced.
The company announced the milestone along with a photo of staff outside the ‘Plaid’ entrance at Giga Texas, with balloons showing ‘20M’ signifying the 20 millionth number.

Tesla’s ramp up rate from 1 million to 10 million took 16 months at about 562,500 cells per month. The time ramping from 10 million to 20 million took four months and the production rate was 2.5 million cells per month, a huge increase.
How long will it take Tesla to produce 30 million 4680 battery cells? At 2.5 million cells produced per month, Tesla could reach its next 30 million milestone around February 2024.
Tesla produced its 1 millionth 4680 battery cell in February 2022. In June of this year, the company reached 10 million 4680 battery cells produced. These 4680 battery cells are part of structural battery packs in Model Y vehicles made at Giga Texas and are also expected to be part of the Cybertruck, when production and deliveries begin sometime this year.
