Tesla has officially rolled out its Vehicle Extended Service Agreement (Vehicle ESA) for Canadian customers.

The extended warranty covers Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y vehicles, according to an official document dated September 25, 2023, the day of the launch. The Tesla mobile app is showing an option for ‘Extended Service Agreement’ under the Upgrades menu.

The Vehicle ESA is designed to cover the repair or replacement of any parts manufactured or supplied by Tesla, except for those listed in the Exclusions section. “The event of Failure must first occur during the Vehicle ESA’s coverage which commences when Your Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty expires,” the document states.

Key Features and Pricing in Canadian Dollars

  • Service Type: 2-year or 40,000 km (whichever occurs first)
  • Purchase Price (CAD): Model S – $4,100, Model X – $4,700, Model 3 – $2,400, Model Y – $2,700
  • Deductible (CAD): $135 per visit

The agreement specifies that customers are responsible for all applicable provincial and local taxes on the purchase price and deductible. “The obligations of Tesla under this Vehicle ESA are backed by the full faith and credit of Tesla,” the document notes.

The extended warranty is available only for vehicles initially purchased directly from Tesla. It does not cover the vehicle’s battery and drive unit. Model S and Model X vehicles produced in 2021 or later are not eligible for this Vehicle ESA.

Owners are required to follow Tesla’s recommended maintenance procedures to maintain the validity of the Vehicle ESA. “Proof of required service, including receipts showing date and mileage of the Vehicle at the time of service, must be presented before any repairs under this Vehicle ESA commence,” according to the document.

The Vehicle ESA can be transferred to a new private owner of the same vehicle during the applicable agreement period, provided certain conditions are met. Customers can also cancel the agreement under specific terms.

The addition of the Extended Service Agreement for Canada comes after it was first launched in the U.S. back in March of this year. Last July, the Tesla mobile app showed an option for this Extended Warranty add-on, but it may have been a glitch.
