Tesla Slashes Prices of Model S/X and Full Self-Driving
Tesla has once again made headlines by reducing the prices of its Model S and Model X vehicles in both Canada and the United States. This move comes on the heels of Tesla announcing new Model 3 offerings for Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.
U.S. Price Adjustments
In the United States, Tesla has discontinued the Standard Range versions of the Model S and Model X but has slashed the prices on existing configurations. The Standard Range was introduced just two weeks ago as a lower-priced entry model with lower range, but has now been eliminated altogether. The new prices now are lower than what the Standard Range was offered before, which is pretty impressive.
Model S price drops are as follows:
- Model S Long Range (LR): Now priced at $74,990 USD, down from $88,490 (15% off)
- Model S Plaid: Reduced to $89,990 USD from the earlier $108,490 (17% off)
Likewise, the Model X has seen substantial price cuts:
- Model X Long Range (LR): Now available for $79,990 USD, originally priced at $98,490 (18.7% off)
- Model X Plaid: Dropped to $89,990 USD from $108,490 (17% off)
Additionally, the Model X now qualifies for a $7,500 federal EV tax credit for the first time. Other changes:
- All colors for both models will now be available at no extra charge in the U.S. and Canada, a significant change considering that the Ultra Red color previously cost an additional $3,000 USD
- Tow package is now included for Model X, no longer an upgrade
Canadian Price Drops
In Canada, the price adjustments are equally notable, with Standard Range Model S and X also axed:
- Model S Long Range: Reduced to $99,990 CAD from its previous $121,990 CAD (18% off)
- Model S Plaid: Now costs $122,990 CAD, down from $148,990 CAD (17.4% off)
For the Model X:
- Model X Long Range: Comes in at $109,990 CAD, a drop from $135,990 CAD (19% off)
- Model X Plaid: Priced at $122,990 CAD, formerly $148,990 CAD (17.4% off)
International Price Drops
Tesla also dropped the price of Model S and Model X in Asia as well, including China and South Korea. There are also price drops for these vehicles in Europe as well.

Full Self-Driving (FSD) Price Reduction
Tesla hasn’t stopped at vehicle prices; the cost of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package has also been reduced. In the U.S., it now costs $12,000 USD, down from $15,000. In Canada, the FSD package is now available for $16,000 CAD, a $3,500 CAD reduction from its previous price of $19,500 CAD.
These strategic price adjustments in North America coincide with Tesla’s global expansion, and competitors are likely going to have a hard time keeping up with these price adjustments.
You can save an extra $1,000 USD on a Model S/X if you order using a referral code, making these price drops even sweeter (plus you get 3 months of FSD for free).
