Folsom Police Department Buys Tesla Model 3 and Model Y

In a stride towards green transportation, the Folsom Police Department announced its recent acquisition of two Tesla electric vehicles, signaling a broader trend within California’s police departments. Folsom is located about 35 minutes east of Sacramento in California.

Highlighting the significance of this move, Folsom PD Operations Division Commander Andrew Bates stated, “We are purchasing a Model Y to try out as a patrol car. We’re also getting a Model 3 for a community service officer car,” reports Gold Country Media.

The department’s decision also aligns with the broader vision of integrating advanced technology into law enforcement.

The staff conveyed, “The all-electric, zero-emission Tesla has proven to be a leader in technological advancements with their vehicles and the technology they possess, which aligns with the vision of the Police Department.”

They further emphasized the vehicle’s viability, stating, “The reduced initial cost, efficiency, zero emissions, reliability, and reduced maintenance costs compared to other vehicles makes them a viable fleet option.”

Safety remains a primary concern, with the department staff noting the Tesla’s accolades, “The Tesla is designed to be one of the safest vehicles on the road, earning a five-star rating in every category and sub-category from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.”

With an eye on the future, the department indicated potential expansion, explaining, “Folsom PD wants to assess the suitability of Tesla for future department use for as many fleet vehicles as possible.”
