Tesla Dominates Irish Market in June with Record Sales

Tesla has raced to the top of the charts in Ireland, as the electric vehicle (EV) giant emerged as the leading car brand in June 2023. The data reveals an accelerating shift towards electric mobility in the country, with almost one-fifth of all new cars registered in the first half of 2023 being electric, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

In a breakthrough month, Tesla notched up 1,039 sales, securing a 35% market share in June, reports Roland Pircher. The company’s Model Y became the best-selling model. June’s sales represented an impressive 348% surge from the previous month, making it Tesla’s best-ever month in Ireland. The company also wrapped up its best quarter, with sales growing by 121% quarter-over-quarter.

In the broader picture, Tesla has seen a remarkable 220% year-to-date increase compared to the same period last year, and the sales for the year to date are already 165% of the total for the previous year.

The Elon Musk-led company outpaced other brands, with 833 Tesla units registered in June 2023, followed by Volkswagen with 788, Toyota with 647, Hyundai with 348, and Skoda with 345. These five automakers represented more than half (53%) of all new private cars licensed in June, as reported by the CSO.

The Irish government’s ambitious plan to put nearly a million EVs on the road by 2030 seems to be driving the rapid transition to electric vehicles. Despite existing concerns about public charging infrastructure, the steady rise of EVs points to a greener future for Irish motoring, with Tesla leading the charge.
