Tesla has made changes again to its free colours for Model 3 and Model Y customers in the U.S. and Canada.
Midnight Silver Metallic is now included for free, whereas previously it was a $1,000 USD upgrade. The free color before was Pearl White Multi-Coat, which is now $1,000. The change comes after Tesla announced a record number of production and deliveries in Q2.
For Model S and Model X, Pearl White remains the free color, with Midnight Silver Metallic still a $1,500 extra upgrade.
Back in November 2021, Tesla made Midnight Silver Metallic free in the U.S. and Canada, alongside Pearl White Multi-Coat. But that was short-lived as it was not permanent. Customers had long been asking for a different ‘free’ color to change up the look of Tesla vehicles on the streets.
The change came after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he would “discuss with the team” about the popularity of white Model 3 and Model Y vehicles on the road.
Now this change may be a difficult pill for some to swallow if they had just paid for Midnight Silver Metallic prior to the end of Q2, but alas, that’s how Tesla operates.
