Tesla Sweeps Top 4 in 2023 American-Made Cars Index
In a recent ranking by Cars.com, Tesla has once again proven its dominance in the American auto industry. For the third consecutive year, Tesla has topped the American-Made Index, which ranks vehicles built and bought in the U.S. The 2023 ranking is even more impressive as Tesla’s entire lineup has swept the top four spots, a first in the history of the index.
The American-Made Index, now in its 18th year, evaluated 388 vehicles this year based on five criteria: assembly location, parts content, engine origin, transmission origin, and U.S. manufacturing workforce. From this extensive list, 100 vehicles were selected for the index.
Tesla’s Model Y SUV led the pack for the second year in a row. Following the Tesla lineup, the Honda Passport SUV secured the fifth spot, dropping one place from its 2022 ranking. The Volkswagen ID.4, an all-electric SUV, made its debut on the list at number six.
Rounding out the top 10 were four vehicles from Honda: the Odyssey minivan and Ridgeline pickup truck at numbers seven and nine, respectively, and the MDX and RDX SUVs from Honda’s luxury division, Acura, at numbers eight and ten.

Last June, Tesla’s Model Y took the top spot in the same 2022 rankings, followed by the Model 3. The Model X and Model S were in 5th and 6th spots respectively, but for 2023 have surged up to 3rd and 4th. Sexy indeed!
