EVgo, one of America’s largest public fast-charging networks for EVs, has announced its plan to incorporate Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors into its countrywide fast-charging network. This decision comes on the heels of Ford and General Motors (GM) declaring they would start employing NACS connectors from 2025 onwards.

Since 2020, EVgo has been successfully deploying integrated Tesla connectors. With an increasing number of automakers now adopting NACS connectors, the company looks forward to integrating this technology into its network. This addition is slated to be implemented in both future and select existing chargers, according to Cathy Zoi, CEO of EVgo.

“Being pioneers in EV charging, we have always been committed to catering to all EV drivers. Our progression from CHAdeMO only, to CHAdeMO and CCS, and now CHAdeMO, CCS, and NACS, demonstrates our constant evolution,” Zoi stated. “We believe these advancements will spur EV adoption rates and sales, ultimately boosting the throughput growth on EVgo’s network.”

As the shift towards EVs gains momentum, a surge in demand for charging facilities will necessitate the deployment of hundreds of thousands of new fast chargers in the US over the next decade. Prioritizing customer needs, EVgo focuses on location convenience and ease of use. To ensure EV drivers can quickly, reliably, and conveniently charge their vehicles regardless of the plug they use, EVgo has rolled out technologies like Autocharge+, EVgo Rewards and Reservations. Furthermore, with EVgo Renew, the company will assess which future upgrades or replacements could integrate a NACS connector.

“EVgo’s prosperity hinges on widespread EV adoption, our strategic partnerships, and our continued technological leadership,” Zoi added. “We’re committed to working with all our automaker partners, and the influx of new EV models coupled with expanded charging access for NACS and CCS vehicles, will bring us closer to achieving our vision of Electric for All.”

Earlier today, Blink, Kempower, Chargepoint, along with Wallbox, Nxu, and Tritium all announced support for Tesla’s NACS. Bring on more announcements as the hours and days roll on.
