Tesla Cancels Some Model Y Long Range Orders in Canada
Tesla has cancelled orders for some Model Y Long Range vehicles Canada, which appears due to its switch in production from Fremont to Giga Shanghai, according to posts in a Tesla Model Y Canadian group on Facebook.
Customers affected by this change received communication from Tesla today stating that the vehicle configuration they had ordered was no longer available, prompting the cancellation of their orders and a full refund of their order fees. This Long Range Model Y originally had 531km of estimated range.
The electric vehicle giant encouraged customers to update their vehicle design, possibly to opt for the latest Model Y Long Range model offering an estimated range of 497 kilometers—that’s coming from Giga Shanghai. Customers were advised to make these updates by June 23, 2023, to keep their orders active.
Among the post shared by Lucas L. was a flurry of reactions, including customers expressing a preference for the Fremont versions of the vehicle. Yet, other users argued that Shanghai builds are superior. Speculations and discussions regarding the battery type of the new Model Y Long Range vehicles from Shanghai also ensued, with various customers suggesting it could be the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) from China or nickel-cobalt-aluminium battery by LG. Until we get a breakdown of these Model Y deliveries coming from Giga Shanghai, what you read online regarding the battery type is pure speculation until it is confirmed by Tesla or Elon Musk.
