Bridgestone Debuts Turanza EV Tire for Tesla and Mustang Mach-E
Bridgestone has made a significant leap in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the global launch of its Turanza EV grand touring tire. This tire is specifically designed for premium electric vehicles, and is the first replacement tire from the company to feature the revolutionary Bridgestone ENLITEN technology.
The Turanza EV tire, which is now available at tire retailers across the nation, has been designed to cater to the unique dynamics of EVs. It offers excellent tread life, minimal ride noise, and confident wet handling, enhancing the overall EV driving experience. The initial launch includes five sizes, suitable for all Tesla models and the Ford Mustang Mach-E, with an additional 13 sizes set to launch in early 2024.
The ENLITEN technology incorporated in the Turanza EV tire is being dubbed as a game-changer. It optimizes all-season performance, extends wear life, and allows for the use of renewable and recycled materials in the tire. This technology focuses on a next-generation tread compound for wear life and all-season performance, new structural components for balanced ride comfort and excellent steering feel, and increased efficiency for both ICE and EV platforms.
The Turanza EV tire also debuts Bridgestone’s PeakLife polymer, a next-gen polymer technology that enhances tread resistance to wear, thereby extending tire life. Developed at Bridgestone’s Americas Technology Center in Akron, Ohio, the PeakLife polymer was fast-tracked from R&D to market application in less than two years to significantly improve the Turanza EV’s wear capabilities.
As for tread life warranty on these new EV tires, it’s a 50,000-mile limited warranty.
“With the accelerated progress toward an electrified vehicle fleet, we’re thrilled to launch a tire that is designed to help drivers get the best overall experience from their electric vehicles, including ride comfort, all-season driving performance and excellent wear life,” said Riccardo Cichi, President and Chief Sales Officer, Bridgestone Americas.
The Turanza EV tire aligns with Bridgestone’s sustainability goals, incorporating 50% renewable and recycled materials. It is manufactured at Bridgestone’s passenger car tire production facilities in Wilson, North Carolina, and Monterrey, Mexico, where significant new investments were made to accommodate the use of ENLITEN technology.
Bridgestone made the announcement at Electrify Expo’s first tour stop today at Long Beach, California.
