Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Monday in Versailles his intention to make substantial investments in France. However, he did not provide a specific timeline for this initiative.

Musk’s statements came after a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. Asked about Tesla’s investment plans in France, Musk said, “I think at some point, but not today, at some point, yes,” reports Reuters.

While no official announcements were made, Musk expressed his admiration for Macron and the French government’s welcoming attitude towards industry. “I am confident that in the future Tesla will be making significant investments in France,” he told reporters.

Macron reciprocated the sentiment on Twitter, stating, “With @ElonMusk, we talked about the attractiveness of France and the significant progress in the electric vehicle and energy sectors. We also talked about digital regulation. We have so much to do together. See you this afternoon at the #ChooseFrance Summit!”

This discussion points towards a promising future for the electric vehicle industry in France, with potential significant investments from Tesla, which currently is leading EV production, with Model Y being the best-selling car in Europe in Q1.

Back in December, Musk also held a meeting with Macron, to discuss the “manufacturing of EVs and batteries,” among other topics. “In line with our ambition for decarbonizing and reindustrializing France and Europe, with @elonmusk we exchanged on future green industrial projects, such as manufacturing of electric vehicles and batteries,” said Macron last year. Musk said at the time, “looking forward to exciting plans in France.”
