Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD Debuts in Europe

Summary:

  • Tesla has started selling the Model 3 Long Range in a rare Rear-Wheel Drive configuration in Europe.
  • The new trim is available for immediate delivery from Tesla’s inventory in several countries.
  • Last month, Tesla debuted the Model 3 Long Range RWD as an exclusive offering for enterprise customers in the U.K.

Tesla is now selling the Model 3 Long Range in a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) configuration in Europe, according to a tip from @TeslaInfoCom.

The rare trim is reportedly available for immediate delivery from Tesla’s existing inventory in several European countries. All Model 3 Long Range RWD units being sold in Europe are left-hand drive (LHD) vehicles produced at Gigafactory China. Tesla recently scrapped plans to manufacture right-hand drive versions of the Model S and Model X for Europe and other regions.

Last month, Tesla launched the Model 3 Long Range RWD in the U.K., but it was exclusive to business-to-business (B2B) customers. Now, however, it looks like the trim is also available to end users.

Individual customers still can’t custom-order the Model 3 Long Range RWD from Tesla’s online vehicle configurator, but they can purchase any units available in the company’s inventory. The Model 3 Long Range RWD costs about €5,000 less than its All-Wheel Drive (AWD) counterpart, which can be ordered from Tesla’s online configurator.

@TeslaInfoCom theorized that the Model 3 Long Range RWD units available in Tesla’s European inventory could be excess vehicles that were originally destined for business leases but are now being offered directly to customers.
