A recent experiment conducted by Big Motoring World, a used car dealership in the UK, found that owning an electric vehicle (EV) could significantly boost one’s chances of getting a date on popular dating app Tinder, specifically a Tesla.
Big Motoring World created two near-identical Tinder profiles for one of their employees, Jay, 26, with the only difference being that one profile featured a photo of Jay posing behind the wheel of a shiny new Tesla.
The goal was to get as many matches as possible for Jay leading up to Valentine’s Day, with 500 daily swipes for each profile. The results showed that the profile with the EV photo received 61 matches, compared to 25 matches for the other profile.
The experiment aimed to test whether electric cars could pass the ‘cool test’ and determine if owning one could increase one’s chances of getting a date. The results showed that posing in a Tesla more than doubled Jay’s chances of getting a date, with the EV profile having a 144% higher success rate than the other profile.
The small experiment suggests that electric vehicles may have a certain appeal and be viewed as attractive, leading to more interest on dating apps. “It’s fair to say, if you are ‘charged up’ for love, then an EV could be the right investment for you,” said the company of its experiment.
Big Motoring World told Lincolnshire Live that they reached out to some of the Tinder matches to get some feedback on Jay’s profile posing with a Tesla. One 24-year-old woman said, “I’ve got to be honest and say that the sight of a shiny Tesla was a massive turn-on for me. They don’t come cheap and it showed me that he must be a really successful guy.”
“As well as the car being electric, his bio said that he was passionate about climate change, there’s something really sexy about someone who believes in important issues. It’s a shame the profile isn’t real – I’d have definitely gone on a date with him,” added the Tinder match.
