Tesla Leases Nearly 150,000 Sq. Ft. of Industrial Space in the East Bay: Report
Tesla has reportedly leased approximately 148,500 square feet of industrial space at 22290 Hathaway Ave. in Hayward, which represents half of the 297,000-square-foot Hathaway facility. The facility is owned by San Francisco industrial real estate investment trust, Prologis Inc., reports the San Francisco Business Times, citing unnamed sources.
It is not clear how Tesla intends to use the space. The other half of the facility remains available for lease. KBC Advisors’ Sam Higgins and Tom Damaschino represented Prologis, while Cushman & Wakefield’s Jeff Starkovich shared the listing with them.
The East Bay’s industrial market has seen a flatter period recently, according to industry observers, but brokers familiar with the area have reported strong fundamentals, giving the market a sense of stability even through slower periods. It is not known how much warehouse space Tesla leases in other parts of the Bay Area, but the company has seven factories, including its original one in Fremont.
In 2017, Tesla made headlines when it leased over 1 million square feet of industrial space in Livermore, and it still occupies the space. Prologis acquired the Hathaway facility in 2018 as part of its $8.5 billion acquisition of DCT Industrial Trust.
