Kia Unveils EV9 3-Row Electric SUV
Kia has unveiled the EV9 on Tuesday, its first three-row seat electric flagship SUV, with new design, technology, and sustainability features, offering options of six or seven seat configurations.
Based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV9 offers an all-electric WLTP target range of over 541 km and ultra-fast 800-volt charging, adding 239 km of range in just 15 minutes.
“The Kia EV9 transcends all aspects of traditional SUV thinking and represents the pinnacle of Kia’s design and engineering capabilities,” said Kia’s President and CEO, Ho Sung Song in a statement.
The EV9 integrates sustainable materials and aims to reduce carbon footprint, aligning with Kia’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.
The electric SUV features a 3,100-mm wheelbase, with choices of 21-inch, 20-inch or 19-inch wheels. The overall length is at 5,010 mm, while it is 1,980-mm wide and 1,755-mm tall.
The EV9 offers a diverse range of electric powertrain options based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and incorporating Kia’s fourth-generation battery technology. The Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) Standard model exclusively features a 76.1-kWh battery, while both the RWD Long Range and All Wheel Drive (AWD) variants are equipped with a 99.8-kWh battery.
The RWD Long Range model is powered by a 150 kW / 350 Nm electric motor, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds, as indicated by preliminary data. The Standard RWD EV9, driven by a single yet stronger 160 kW / 350 Nm electric motor, can reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 8.2 seconds.
Sporting two electric motors, the AWD version generates a combined power output of 283 kW and 600 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds. An optional Boost feature, available for future purchase at the Kia Connect Store, amplifies the combined torque to an impressive 700 Nm, reducing the 0-to-100 km/h acceleration time to 5.3 seconds.
