Tesla Says $20,000 Model S Plaid Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit Launching Soon
Tesla appears to be preparing to debut its limited-edition $20,000 Model S Plaid Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit.
In emails to customers such as Zack (@BLKMDL3), Tesla is asking people to “confirm your interest” in the pricey brake kit.
“Thank you for your interest in the Model S Plaid Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit. As we prepare to release a limited quantity of the kit in the coming months, we are offering you the opportunity to be one of the first to order,” reads the Tesla email.
“Confirm your interest and we will send you an email notification one day before the official release date with more information. Supplies will be limited,” explains the email signed off by the Tesla Team.
Back in December, Tesla delayed the brake kit once again to “early 2023.” It was first announced back in November 2021. However, in October 2022, Tesla delivered a couple units to customers such as tuner Unplugged Performance and tech reviewer MKBHD.
“Our rotors feature continuous-fiber technology and are constructed in a unique 3D matrix to add strength and manage heat more effectively,” Tesla writes in the product listing for the brake kit. “For additional durability, a ceramic friction layer covers the entire rotor surface to reduce brake dust, corrosion and wear, while also improving pedal feel for daily driving.”
It remains unclear if this carbon ceramic brake kit will unlock the Model S Plaid’s 200mph top speed. One may be better investing $20,000 into Tesla stock?
Aftermarket carbon ceramic brake kits for the Model S Plaid are cheaper than Tesla’s option, such as Unplugged Performance’s version at up to $9,595 USD.
