Consumer Reports 2023 Picks Include Tesla Model 3, Several Hybrids
Consumer Reports is offering a huge new endorsement for electric vehicles (EVs), as seven of its top 10 models for 2023 are electric cars, trucks and SUVs, as reported by CNBC on Thursday.
The Tesla Model 3 landed Consumer Reports’ main electric pick, and the publication says it was chosen due to offering more range than most other EVs out there.
Additionally, the publication selected the Toyota Camry Hybrid, the Corolla Hybrid, the Ford Maverick Hybrid, the Nissan Leaf, the Lexus NX350h Hybrid and the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid amongst its top 10 picks.
“This really just shows how the market is changing,” said CR’s Senior Director of Automotive Testing Jake Fisher. “Electrification, not just battery electric vehicles, but just electrification, is changing the market and making a lot of really great options.”
Last year, Consumer Reports selected the Ford Mustang Mach-E over the Tesla Model 3 as the top EV pick. This year,
“With hybrids, you’re kind of being really easy on the engine, being really easy on the brakes, because you’re actually using the generator and the battery to kind of soften everything,” Fisher said to CNBC.
“There are less brake problems, less transmission problems, everything is kind of muted. Plus, when you look at the hybrids and who’s producing these hybrids, they generally are from very reliable automakers who have been using this technology for a long time.”
