Tesla Model 3/Y Now Qualifies for $2,000 Clean Vehicle Rebate in California
The Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP has included Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y for a $2,000 rebate in the state of California, for those eligible.
Any Tesla order placed on or after January 12, 2023, may be eligible for a CVRP rebate, says the website, as spotted by Vincent Huynh (via @WholeMarsBlog).
“The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y have been added to the CVRP eligible vehicles page. To be eligible, the applicant must meet all eligibility requirements and must apply within 90 days of registering the vehicle,” explains the CVRP.
Individuals, businesses, nonprofits or government entities based in California at the time of car purchases or leases can qualify, depending on income eligibility requirements.
Take a look at the income cap below, which has decreased since February 24, 2022:
The CVRP website lists the Tesla Model 3 sedan and Model Y compact crossover as eligible for the $2,000 rebate. There’s also a shortcut on its homepage that directs users to Tesla’s eligibility. Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3 were the top-selling cars in California in 2022.
These are the manufactured suggested retail price thresholds:
- Base MSRP of $60,000 or less for vehicles that fall under the Large Vehicles category. This includes minivans, pickups, and SUVs.
- Base MSRP of $45,000 or less for vehicles that fall under the Cars category. These are all other light-duty vehicles classes (e.g.; hatchbacks, sedans, wagons, and two-seaters).
The CVRP rebate, along with recent price drops and the federal tax credit, means an entry Model 3 can now start at $33,490 USD, which is quite the deal.
Last week, the California Air Resource Board, which oversees the CVRP, told KCRA 3 that the Tesla Model 3 and Y are expected to qualify for rebates again, after the EV automaker cut its prices recently.
