Alberta EV Owners Can Get $150 Rebate for Charging with Optiwatt

Electric vehicle (EV) owners in Alberta may be eligible for a new $150 CAD rebate for charging with the Optiwatt platform, according to an email shared with Tesla North on Wednesday.

The offer is available from Optiwatt and FortisAlberta Electric Cooperative, offering $150 in compensation for registering for the Alberta Managed Charging Pilot.

The program is attempting to automate EV charging to help offset consumer costs and reduce carbon emissions and stress on the local electrical grid. Optiwatt’s platform is intended to help consumers get paid to charge their vehicles during off-peak hours.

On a larger scale, the joint efforts between Optiwatt and FortisAlberta are expected to serve as a pilot program for helping North American electrical grids prepare for mass EV adoption, preventing excess electricity usage during times of peak demand.

To register for the platform and claim the $150 credit, Alberta EV owners can simply download the Optiwatt app and add their EV. Then, enable program enrollment in the app’s “Charging” section, and you’ll be all set.

Optiwatt has only 600 available spots for Alberta owners to gain the credit.

Alberta announced plans last year to install as many as 110 new public EV chargers across the province, just months after reports suggested that the region could be falling behind in the charging infrastructure race.
