How to Fix Tesla YouTube Low Resolution, Change Back to HD [VIDEO]

Tesla owners with Premium Connectivity recently reported resolution issues with the native YouTube app, defaulting to 360p video quality with no option to change it back to full HD.

Scott Maple of the YouTube channel Kropserkel ‘Prop Culture’ shared a new video last week, showing a quick fix for videos showing up in 360p, a problem that has become more common within the last week or two.

The video shows Maple in his Model 3 with the YouTube app and a video open, at first showing the low-resolution footage.

Maple notes that navigating to the settings of the YouTube video appears to let you select video resolution from a drop-down menu like before, but it’s not possible to select other resolutions like HD.

Instead, users must double-tap the resolution drop-down menu icon, then use the scroll wheel on the left side of the steering wheel to actually select different resolutions in the list by clicking it to the left.

Users will have to go past the 144p resolution, which will then allow them to access resolutions ranging from 720p all the way to 2160p.

It’s unclear why the 360p YouTube resolution is happening, but this low resolution can save Tesla network data from its connectivity partner, thus reducing costs. But it’s not a good thing for Tesla customers paying for Premium Connectivity.

You can watch Scott’s quick fix for the resolution issue below, which is what was first shared on Not a Tesla App last week:
