SpaceX Starlink Gateway ‘Megasite’ Coming to Pennsylvania Township

An antenna yard project in the Halfmoon Township of Centre County, Pennsylvania is set to offer increased access to SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet by combining it with fiber optic capabilities. Halfmoon Township is located just under a 2.5-hour drive east of downtown Pittsburgh.

Township officials awarded conditional approval to a development plan for a Starlink antenna project, with developer Zayo set to build 32 pre-constructed ground antennas, according to a report from State College (via @VirtuallyNathan).

The ground antennas will be linked into a fiber optic facility to broaden the reach of the satellite internet service, set to become available for “the county and surrounding area.”

“This particular project is an antenna yard of 32 antennas that support the Starlink internet program at your home,” said Rex Atkinson of project architect and engineer Five Nine Design Group. “So this yard makes those Starlink antennas faster and provides a faster internet to your home.”

The ground station will span an 88-foot by 153-foot gravel pad at 67 Sawmill Road, close to the Halfmoon Valley Road intersection.

Although Starlink’s website doesn’t currently say service is available in the Halfmoon Township area, it says SpaceX “expects to expand service in your area in 2023.”

Starlink Gateway Megasites now total at 21 upcoming, based on E-Band applications filed by SpaceX, according to Owens. You can see the proposed sites compiled in the custom Google Map below by Owens. In total, there are 100 SpaceX Starlink gateway sites now including these new applications:

A recent filing showed SpaceX’s plans to add communications for its second-generation Starlink satellites at 60 U.S. Gateway sites, just after the company gained approval to launch as many as 7,500 of the second-generation Starlink satellites.
