Tom Zhu Steps Down as Tesla’s Operating Legal Representative in China
In the latest news of Tesla executive Tom Zhu shifting toward a larger role in the U.S. or global markets, Zhu has been replaced as the legal representative for the automaker’s operating entity in China.
Wang Hao has replaced Zhu as the legal representative for Tesla’s operating entity in China, corroborating other reports that suggest Zhu could be headed for a larger role with the automaker, according to a report from CnEVPost.
The change took place officially on December 22, as shown in data from Qichacha, just as Zhu and a team are in the U.S. helping Tesla boost production at Giga Texas and Giga Fremont.
You can see more in the screenshot below obtained by Tesla North, where online commentary discusses the move where Zhu is no longer listed and instead showing Wang Hao:
Wang has been with Tesla since April 2014, starting out as the head of the company’s destination charging program in China. In January 2018 he became Tesla China’s deputy general manager, before starting as general manager in August 2019.
Some reports say that Tesla CEO Elon Musk has chosen Zhu to replace him as CEO, citing anonymous sources.
Zhu is currently being tasked with ramping up production at Giga Texas, though the scope of his future responsibilities is expected to encompass much of Tesla’s auto business.
Reports also say that Zhu’s role will be limited to autos, and won’t include self-driving or robotics.
