VinFast held a delivery ceremony on Friday, officially exporting its first batch of VF 8 electric vehicles (EVs) to the U.S., according to a press release on Friday.

The event oversaw 999 VF 8 units which are expected to arrive in California in roughly 20 days, while customers can expect to receive their first deliveries by the end of December.

The event also marks the first Vietnamese automaker to enter the global market, and it says it plans to export the VF 8 to Canada and Europe in early 2023.

“The export of the first 999 VF 8s is a significant event for VinFast and Vingroup and a proud historical milestone for the Vietnamese automotive industry,” Vingroup Vice Chairman and CEO Nguyen Viet Quang said in a statement to Tesla North.

“It affirms that Vietnam has successfully produced high-quality standards electric vehicles that are ready to compete in the international market. We hope that, when VinFast’s smart electric vehicles roll out on the streets around the world, it will help promote the image of a new, dynamic and progressive Vietnam to the global audience,” added Nguyen.

The EVs will also be launched in the company’s home market of Vietnam in the first quarter of 2023. VinFast currently has about 65,000 global orders for the VF 8 and VF 9 EVs, with the first batch destined for the U.S. market.

Last month, VinFast announced a partnership with CATL to develop a line of electric “skateboard chassis” products.
