A new XPeng Motors SUV was reportedly spotted testing, and it could be the G5 model which is expected to rival the Tesla Model Y, as reported by Chinese media outlet Yiche on Sunday (via CnEVPost).

The vehicle was covered in privacy wraps, and the original report said that the vehicle is internally codenamed F30 with the official name of G5. Additionally, the vehicle was spotted in a video on Weibo from user @德卤爱开车 on Weibo.

The EV spotted features a compact SUV body measuring roughly 15.42 feet (4.7 meters) long, along with XPeng’s F platform design language and it’s expected to be launched with LiDAR sensors.

The news comes just a couple of months after the automaker said it would launch a new Model Y competitor in the first half of 2023. The statements were made on August 24 in the automaker’s second-quarter earnings call.

The automaker also said it plans to launch a C-segment vehicle in the second half of 2023, in order to offer a vehicle with more space and comfort to the market.

Last month, XPeng launched the G9 SUV with deliveries set to start in October.
