Boulder City Police Unveils Tesla Model Y Patrol Car in Nevada [PICS]
Boulder City Police in Nevada have unveiled pictures of its Tesla Model Y patrol cars.
The city says it is a “leader in energy production” that is now also “cutting down on fossil fuel consumption,” as it unveils electric cars for its police department.
The purchase of the Tesla Model Y was made with a small portion of the American Rescue Plan Act funds. According to Boulder City it says regular patrol cars have a 9-12 month waitlist for the same vehicle costs, so the decision to purchase a Tesla Model Y was a “strategic decision.”
The city’s police department is also the largest consumer of gas in Boulder City, so the idea to add a Model Y was “focused on long-term savings for our residents and environmentally supportive efforts.”
Boulder City Council discussed the Model Y being added to the police department at its August 23, 2022 meeting. Savings were expressed when it comes to less maintenance and no gas required for the Tesla. Lieutenant Vince Albowicz said any problems could be resolved remotely by Tesla, saving the department time and money.
Albowicz pointed out “significant savings” seen by other police departments also testing Tesla patrol cars.
The Boulder City Model Y patrol car is set to hit the streets soon.
