Bloomberg recently released their Green Electric Vehicle ratings dashboard, listing the greenest EVs in the United States.

“The electric car revolution is picking up speed. As automakers pledge to kick their gasoline habit entirely, they have launched dozens of electric models—and dozens more will be rolled out by the end of 2023. Bloomberg Green’s EV ratings dashboard catalogues the models currently available in the US,” says the publication.

“Along with car specs, we also have come up with a Green rating for each model, based on how efficiently the cars travel once on the road and the resources needed to manufacture the batteries in those cars,” says Bloomberg.

The ‘Green rating’ is calculated as a weighted score of (range ÷ curb weight) + battery size, on a scale from 0–100 (with 100 besting the best).

Onto the results, the Lucid Air Dream Edition Range topped the charts with a Green rating of 71.1. This build costs $169,000 USD.

In second place was the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD seeing a score of 66.7, followed by the Model 3 Performance at 60 and the Rear-Wheel Drive (Standard Range Plus) getting a score of 58.1.

The Model S ranked third with a score of 61.2, while the Tesla Model Y Long Range received a score of 58.8.

Bloomberg says it consulted with “three of the leading sources for electric vehicle policy and strategy: Atlas Public Policy, BloombergNEF and the Union of Concerned Scientists,” to develop its scoring system.

The Green rating will be updated as new cars make their way to the market. Upcoming additions include the Audi A6 e-tron, Nissan Ariya, Cadillac Lyriq, Fisker Ocean, Audi Q4 e-tron and Jeep Wrangler Magneto EV when they actually become available.
